Check every claim in a draft against its source
Paste a draft with its references. Every citation is matched to the list and every source looked up, free. Then check what each sentence claims against its source.
Up to 25 references a check, 3 checks a day.
How it works
Paste or upload
A reference list, a .bib or .ris file, or the whole draft as Word or PDF.
Each work looked up
In Crossref, where publishers register their papers, then OpenAlex for books and the rest, by DOI or by title, author and year.
See what to fix
Found, found with a different year or authors, or not found, and any retraction flagged.
Records from Crossref and OpenAlex; retractions from Retraction Watch, through Crossref. Nothing you paste or upload is kept.
Keep your library in Zotero?
Right-click items or a whole collection and choose Check references with hedwigai. The check opens here and starts at once. Free, for Zotero 7 and 8; nothing in your library changes.
Check every claim against its source
Signed in, hedwigai marks each sentence that states a fact: cited by an independent source, only self-reported, contradicted, or with no source, with the passage that settles it. Your words stay exactly as written.
Check a draft’s claimsBilled by what the check looks up; new accounts start with credit.
What does a claim checker check?
Each sentence that a source could settle, one at a time. A figure is matched to the same figure in the source, not a nearby one. A claim about a listed company is looked for first in its annual report, and a claim only the company’s own site states is marked self-reported. A sentence that cites a work, [3] or (Smith et al., 2020), is read against that work. A sentence nothing settles is shown as such, so silence is never read as a pass.
How is it different from an AI fact checker?
It answers from what it read, not what a model remembers. Every verdict links the page or paper it came from and quotes the passage, so you can check the checker. Attach your own data files and the draft’s own figures are settled against them.
