Payments
What people and their agents pay for: x402, Stripe and marketplace data by community
Our last post counted the MCP servers, connectors and skills each community installs. Installing is free. This one follows the money: what each community pays for, and what agents now pay for themselves.
No large tool maker publishes its revenue, and Stripe publishes no figure for money paid to MCP servers. So we read the payments that are public: every x402 payment on chain, Apify’s marketplace, and the revenue small makers verify through Stripe, Polar or Paddle. The short answer: people pay most for data about people (social profiles, leads, places), agents paying for themselves buy model calls and API access, and the communities paying are marketers, sales and creators. Developers install the most, and pay mainly for model calls.

What Stripe says
Stripe carried $1.9 trillion in 2025 and says the top AI companies on it reach $1 million in revenue about four months sooner than the top software companies did. It launched payments for agents (machine payments, an agentic commerce suite, a wallet agents can use), but has not said how much flows through them.
| Figure | Where | |
|---|---|---|
| Total payment volume on Stripe, 2025 | $1.9 trillion, up 34% | Annual letter |
| Top 100 AI companies: months to $1M in annualised revenue | 11.5 (median), about 4 months ahead of top SaaS | Indexing the AI economy |
| Companies reaching $10M a year within 3 months of launch | Twice as many in 2025 as in 2024 | Annual letter |
| Claimable Stripe sandboxes created from AI coding tools (Replit, Vercel, Manus, Base44) | More than 100,000 | Annual letter |
| Link wallet users, now able to pay through an agent | More than 250 million | Sessions 2026 |
| What Stripe says about money paid to MCP servers | Nothing yet: machine payments launched, no volume given | Annual letter |
Three places the money shows
Agent tools are paid for three ways: per request, by the agent itself, over x402; per result, through a marketplace like Apify; and by subscription, the way any software is. The three report different things, so the figures below are not a ranking.
| Rail | What is paid for | Last 30 days | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| x402 (stablecoin, per request) | An agent pays an API itself, per call | $1.09M | x402scan, every payment on chain |
| Apify Store (pay per result) | Scrapers and agents billed per result | $1.7M paid to developers | Apify's own claim |
| Subscriptions (TrustMRR) | Monthly plans for agent tools | $156,718 across 187 OpenClaw startups | Verified by the payment provider |
What agents buy with their own money
x402 lets an agent pay for an API call itself, in stablecoins, with no account. In the last 30 days, 36,563 buyers paid 39,175 sellers $1,090,730 in 2,831,358 payments, well under a dollar each.
By count, agents buy model calls and API gateways. By dollars, the top seller is not an agent tool at all: people turning stablecoins into prepaid cards. After that come crypto markets and voice. Sales and marketing data, the leads and social profiles that dominate Apify, is still small here.
| Seller | What it sells | Community | Paid | Payments |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| laso.finance | Prepaid and gift cards bought with stablecoins | Everyday users | $272,270 | 221 |
| clusterprotocol.ai | Crypto market access | Finance | $54,756 | 66,674 |
| dtelecom | Speech-to-text, text-to-speech and calls | Creators | $36,334 | 16,490 |
| api-xpay.com | Utility APIs | Developers | $4,871 | 48,659 |
| blockrun.ai | 114 models, search and data | Developers | $3,266 | 411,683 |
| api.venice.ai | Model inference | Developers | $3,143 | 555 |
| stableenrich.dev | Lead enrichment, Exa, Firecrawl, Google Maps | Sales | $1,195 | 43,757 |
| api.bitrefill.com | Gift cards, eSIMs and phone top-ups | Everyday users | $947 | 816 |
| agi.apify.com | Prepaid Apify scraping | Marketers and data | $625 | 353 |
| socialx402.com | TikTok, Instagram, Reddit and LinkedIn data | Marketers | $177 | 2,944 |
What people pay for, one result at a time
Apify sells scrapers and agents by the result, and its store says how many people used each in the last 30 days. Social media and lead generation lead by far: marketers watching Instagram and TikTok, sales teams building lists from Google Maps and LinkedIn. Apify says it paid its developers $1.7 million last month. Of its 852 most popular actors, pay-per-result ones had 27 times the users of free ones.
Apify users in the last 30 days, by category (a person using two actors counts twice)
| Actor | Users, 30 days | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram Scraper | 51,709 | $0.0027 a result |
| Google Maps Scraper | 41,873 | $0.004 a place |
| RAG Web Browser | 32,916 | $0.00228 a page |
| Google Search Scraper | 24,466 | $0.0045 a page |
| LinkedIn Profile with email | 12,834 | $0.01 a profile |
Community by community: verified revenue
TrustMRR lists makers who let it read their revenue straight from their payment provider. It is not a census, since makers choose to list, but every figure is real money. Grouped by who buys:
| Community | Maker | What it sells | Provider | 30 days | 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Developers | LLM Gateway | Open-source gateway to model APIs | Stripe | $259,539 | $999,309 |
| Developers | Headroom | Cuts Claude Code and Codex token bills | Polar | $3,068 | $11,105 |
| Developers | Skillry | A library of agent skills, since August 2026 | Stripe | $7,274 | $7,382 |
| Creators | CreativeClaw | Image, video, audio and 3D models in one MCP server | Polar | $107,291 | $146,702 |
| Marketers | SEOBOT | An SEO agent that writes and publishes | Stripe | $37,479 | $885,884 |
| Marketers | Socialcrawl | Social media data API for agents | Stripe | $33,944 | $89,241 |
| Marketers | Advanced GSC MCP | Search Console, GA4 and rankings over MCP | Stripe | $4,564 | $15,392 |
| Marketers | OpenTweet | X scheduling with an MCP server | Paddle | $4,320 | $25,207 |
| Sales | Search1API | Web search and crawling for agents | Stripe | $6,313 | $21,079 |
| Designers | UX Magic | Prompt or screenshot to editable Figma | Stripe | $6,661 | $98,470 |
| Office workers | MagicSlides | AI slides add-on | Stripe | $8,994 | $181,913 |
| Finance | openbudget.sh | Bank and brokerage accounts for an agent | Stripe | $3,419 | $11,418 |
| Ops and security | isMalicious | Threat-intelligence API and MCP server | Stripe | $1,733 | $14,947 |
| Researchers | Blainy | AI academic writing | Stripe | $1,155 | $21,511 |
| Everyday users | Brevilabs | Personal context for any agent | Stripe | $25,336 | $490,550 |
| Everyday users | SetupClaw | Setting up OpenClaw | Stripe | $4,165 | $44,851 |
| Everyday users | LarryBrain | A marketplace of paid OpenClaw skills | Stripe | $2,424 | $35,824 |
One model gateway for developers earns the most. After it, the tools earning most get data or results for marketers, creators and sales, and other developer tools earn when they cut model bills. Selling skills earns little: of four skill directories listed, one had revenue in the last 30 days. Everyday users pay to have OpenClaw set up for them: TrustMRR’s OpenClaw category holds 187 startups and $156,718 in the last 30 days.
The paid tier each community has to buy
Most of the tools in our last post are free to install and paid to use: the agent needs the plan behind the server. These are the cheapest plans that let an agent use each one.
| Tool | What agent use needs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Figma MCP (designers) | Free in beta, to become usage-based; a Dev seat is $12 a month | figma.com/pricing |
| Ahrefs MCP (marketers) | Lite plan or above, from $129 a month, and API units per call | ahrefs.com/pricing |
| Firecrawl (marketers, data) | 1,000 free credits, then $16 a month | firecrawl.dev/pricing |
| Zapier MCP (sales, office) | Each tool call uses a Zapier task; plans from $19.99 a month | zapier.com/pricing |
| n8n Cloud (sales, office) | From €20 a month | n8n.io/pricing |
| Browserbase (developers) | Free with $5 of use, then $20 a month | browserbase.com/pricing |
| Context7 (developers) | Free; Pro $10 a seat a month | context7.com/plans |
| Exa (developers, researchers) | $10 of free use a month, then pay as you go | exa.ai/pricing |
| ElevenLabs (creators) | Free, then $6, $22 or $99 a month | elevenlabs.io/pricing |
| Remotion (creators) | $25 a seat a month, or $0.01 a render with a $100 minimum | remotion.pro/license |
| Claude custom connectors (everyone) | One on the free plan; more on a paid plan | support.claude.com |
Consumers
People spend on the AI apps themselves. Sensor Tower puts in-app purchases in AI apps on course to pass $4 billion in the first half of 2026, up 36% on the half before, and Claude’s average revenue per US mobile user rose from under $0.50 to $2.76 between September 2025 and May 2026. Nobody breaks that spending down by what the agent is connected to.
Where the evidence is thin
Large makers publish nothing. Firecrawl, Exa, Browserbase, Apify, n8n and ElevenLabs do not show verified revenue anywhere public, so the subscriptions table is small makers only.
x402 totals in the press are inflated. Articles cite 138 million and 200 million payments; a Visa and Artemis analysis put real volume at about $19 million once wash trading is removed. We use x402scan’s last 30 days and leave out sellers whose payments look automated, such as one with 470,969 payments from 151 buyers for $1,071.
Card networks publish pilots, not volumes. Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Shopify have announced agent checkout, and none has said how much has gone through it.
