A weekly operations report that writes itself
An operations report is the weekly account of how the business ran: what came in, what got done, what went wrong, and what needs a decision.
What should a weekly operations report include?
Eight sections cover most businesses that run on bookings or jobs. Keep each to a few lines; the report is read on Monday morning, not studied.
| Section | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Volume | Bookings or jobs taken this week, against last week and the same week last year. |
| Completion | How many were delivered, and the share that finished as planned. |
| Cancellations | How many, by whom (customer, operator, no-show) and the reasons that repeat. |
| Timeliness | On-time rate, and the worst delays with their cause. |
| Revenue | Billed this week, and anything outstanding that should not be. |
| By location | The same figures per site, depot, city or terminal, so one bad place is visible. |
| Exceptions | The handful of things somebody has to act on, each with an owner. |
| Next week | What is already booked, and anything known to be coming. |
Put the comparison next to every number. “412 bookings” says nothing; “412, down 9% on last week, all of it at one terminal” is the report.
Why does it take so long to write every week?
Because it is assembled by hand from the same exports every Monday: download the bookings, rebuild the pivot, copy the figures into a document, write the commentary. The work is the same each week and so are the mistakes, and by the time it is sent the week it describes is already over.
What does hedwigAI do differently?
You describe the report in one sentence and it gets written from the files you already keep, in Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or SharePoint. Every figure shows where it came from, and the report refreshes itself on the cadence you set, saying what changed since the last one.
A fleet operator we work with runs its weekly airport-terminal reports, its city reports and a full-year cancellation analysis this way. Share the report as a link that always shows the current version, or export it as PDF, DOCX or XLSX.
How do I start one?
This is the whole brief; change the details to fit your business:
“write our weekly operations report: bookings, completions and cancellations by location, and what changed since last week”
Start with this lineWhat does it cost?
You pay for the runs a workbook takes to write and refresh itself, not per seat. Your first workbook is covered by $5 of usage credit. How pricing works.
